Clear Light Acne Therapy

This May Be The Best Treatment For Adult Acne And You Are Going To Love It

by Carmen VJ

For those of us who still suffer from acne, I am quite sure you are still searching for the best treatment for adult acne. Well, there is alot of talk about this FDA-Approved blue light base therapy. Have you heard? It's called Photodynamic Therapy. And it is suppose to be one of the best for adult acne treatment since slice bread.

Photodynamic Therapy kills bacteria caused by acne. According to a report published in 2004 by the American Academy of Dermatology, you only need three treatments to see a decrease in acne by 83%.

This is how Photodynamic light therapy works. An amino acid called Levulinic is put on your face first. And this has to be left on your face for 45 minutes to 1 hour for this medicine to absorb through the skin cells. When the time is up, this acid has to be remove from your face. After this is done, this is when Photodynamic Therapy is used and as it is being use, this will activate the levulinic(amino acid) that is already on your skin . The Photodynamic light therapy with the Levulinic, will help kill the bacteria in your skin without any side effects. This light therapy will shrink the two oil glands in our skin called the sebaceous and the sebum . These two oil glands have alot to do with the way the acne is presented on our face.

This Photodynamic light therapy is good for those who have tried topical creams in the past and they just didn't work for you. And it is also for people who just cannot use topical creams and gels at all. If you are still having a problem with acne, then maybe you should look into this. Once the treatment is done, it will take 4 weeks before you will see results. And also what you need to know is, after the treatment is done, you cannot go out into the sun for two days. And if you need to, then you need to cover up really well. You will definitely have to work out your schedule before you do these treatments.

Photodynamic therapy is being used right now to treat acne. So far it is considered to be one of the best treatment for acne. This therapy is giving new hope for many people who are still struggling with acne everyday. This can also treat people with rosacea, if you have sun damage to your skin and/or any pre cancerous conditions you may have. This adult acne treatment appears to have positive effects in many individuals. This therapy also appears to provide great long term improvement for acne patients. Consult with a dermatologist if you would like more info on Photodynamic Therapy.

Now if feel you are not ready to do this kind of therapy yet, there is another alternative. There are many treatments you can use at home. You can get a Microdermabrasion System that you can use at home. These are being used at home everyday by many people and they do seem to work. I do use mines from time to time and with great results. Try it out and see if it will work for you. If you want more info on microdermabrasion, it is available.

Carmen VJ. Hello. There are many solutions available for adult acne treatment. And if you have not found the right treatment yet, you have to keep looking until you do. I will always let you know about the best treatment for adult acne Stop on by.

Home Remedy For Acne

Is There Anything Like The Best Acne Treatment For Rosacea?

by Javier Fuller

Rosacea is not a rosy state of affairs for your face. It has the appearance of bad acne. It normally selects cheeks, the best part of your face, for its unpleasant operation. You have severe redness and soaring of the skin. Mouth and forehead are the other favorite spots for rosacea. Even the best of acne treatments prescribed can not assure you of a permanent rosacea cure.

This is another pro-women disease. It attacks women more than the men. Normally it visits you after the age of 30, but this is not the thumb rule. It can surprise you at any time. Moreover this skin culprit is hereditary in nature.

Since its presence is very strong, visible and prominent, it may lead you to an awkward situation. There is no definite cure for rosacea. But several treatment options can be tried. So always take a final decision about the treatment in consultation with your dermatologist only.

Correct diagnosis in suspected case of rosacea is necessary, to find out whether it is actually rosacea. If it actually is, the dermatologist will decide the line of treatment suitable to the type of your rosacea attack.

Till date, pulsed light technology or laser technology is considered as the best treatment for rosacea. Rosacea causes redness of the skin. Laser heats the skin to the level that reduces or eliminates the redness. Most of the over the counter products do not go well with its treatment. So the best person to decide upon the right rosacea treatment for you is your dermatologist.

What is agonizing about rosacea is that it appears not as one to one cyst. It is characterized by reddish discoloration of the facial skin, the targeted areas being cheeks, nose and the forehead.

Since it targets the fair-skinned people more, its presence is prominently exhibited. Along with rosacea, pimples too may make their presence, but no whiteheads or blackheads will appear. Some of the implications of rosacea are frightening.

Initially, redness comes and goes, as if rosacea is doing rehearsals. Treat it at this stage itself, otherwise you are inviting more damage to your facial skin. Puffy cheeks and disfigurement of the nose are not uncommon, if you neglect the treatment.

In such a situation, cosmetic surgery is the only alternative. Severe cases of rosacea can even impair your vision. You are lucky, if your dermatologist is able to identify the root cause of your rosacea condition, in the first stage of attack. This is only possible when you report to your dermatologist in the first stage of its attack. So dont keep sitting to ignore the red soars on your cheeks.

How Do I Get Clear Skin - The Question That Plagues You

by Robert Sheehan

Have your friends ever made you wonder, how do I get clear skin like her all blemish less and beautiful and that too without any effort? No matter what makeup you use you always end up looking more or less like a strawberry. Acne, spots from zits all over your face leaves little space for any other thing. Well the good news is that you are not facing it alone, the better news is that getting a pimple free skin is possible.

If you have acne prone skin you need to follow a strict routine almost always and sulking does not make things easier. Your friends might lead a reckless life and still get away with it, but pimple prone skin is problem skin and it needs attention. There is the regular cleaning, scrubbing, using masks and applying medicine cycle, and there are the other important pointers about diet and your general lifestyle.

Coming to diets, though chocolates, fatty and starchy food are strictly prohibited for people suffering from zits, abstaining from chocolates is impossible. Try not to make your diet look so impossible, instead include lots of fresh fruits, vegetables and tons of water in your daily diet. Proteins too fight pimples, so indulge in poultry, egg white and fish. Finally make sure you are stress free, and exercises might be of help here.

Other important reminders would be to avoid using too much makeup and definitely removing it before you retire at night as it clogs pores. The other important thing is not to use too much cleanser containing bacteria killing substances. Overdoing it may just aggravate the problem.

Breakthrough methods in the treatment of acne

Adult acne can be both physically and mentally scarring for many individuals, fortunately recent scientific progress has resulted in three very effective cures for acne.

1. A topical antibiotic in foam form that is absorbed easily, ridding your skin of all that oil and is also residue free so you need not worry over what is left on your skin.

2. Another method would be the Photo-dynamic Therapy, where a topical medicine is applied and left for a time period ranging from half an hour to an hour for absorption and then it is zapped with a pulsing light. The sessions may last for up to three hours with a 2 to 4 weeks gap. However, the method is effective in keeping your skin oil free and bacteria free and hence also pimple free for months or even years.

3. Velac is a lethal combination for your pimples with a combination of topical antibiotic and retinoid cream. The combined effect is a whole lot faster and potent for acne of all sorts.

With so much help available you might soon be able to flaunt clear skin yourself.

Acne Blemish Control

Fight Back: Ways to Get Treatment for Acne

by Charlene Nuble

Acne is a condition that affects almost 80 out of 100 people from 11 to 30 years old. This condition has been around for such a long time that acne treatments vary from simple over-the-counter medication to herbal medicines to folk cures.

Youd think that just because acne is this common that there would be a universally effective treatment for it by now, but take a look at your local pharmacy shelves and youll find hundreds of anti-acne products promising cures. If you look closer, youll find different formulations for different types of acne.

Know your weapons.

You may have a simple case of pimples that can go away in a day or two or you may have regular breakouts that you are used to by now. If there is inflammation and the appearance of pustules, it would be best to see a doctor to treat acne at an early stage. Your doctor will determine your type of acne and prescribe the proper medications for you to administer at home.

Home treatments for acne include using topical creams that have antibacterial components. One of the most popular is benzoyl peroxide. It not only kills the bacteria on the skin, it also promotes peeling and shedding of dead skin cells so the pores dont get clogged.

If youre using a home treatment, do not expect acne to clear out immediately. It would take days or weeks, even months to see some good results. If your acne hasnt cleared after two months or if you have a severe case, it would be wise to see a doctor immediately.

Another topical cream that your doctor may prescribe is azelaic acid which will not cause skin redness like benzoyl peroxide. This preparation has been known to cause redness, dryness and some irritation, but it is a strong oxidizer (acts as a mild bleach) which means the skin will not develop a resistance.

Vitamin A-related treatments like tretinoin, tazarotene and adapalene may also be prescribed. They are called retinoids and aid in preventing follicle blockage. They may, however, cause some significant irritation of the skin especially during the initial treatment.

Antibacterial creams and oral tablets that contain antibiotics like erythromycin or tetracycline may also be prescribed. Note, however, that killing the bacteria will not stop the skin from secreting oil which causes follicle blockage in the first place. Bacteria may also develop a resistance to antibiotics and some acne may reappear days or weeks after the prescribed duration of the treatment.

Using hormones.

For some women, acne can be eased with hormonal treatments. The combined estrogen-progestogen contraceptives may have some effect in improving acne. There are women, though, for whom the opposite is true.

Cortisone is an injectable substance that your dermatologist may introduce directly into a pimple, especially if it is large and not affected by other treatments. This will help reduce the inflammation so you do not see a bump on the skin. There is also minimal risk of scarring.

Be careful of the light.

Sunlight is a widely-advised treatment for acne, but overexposure may damage the skin due to UV. There is, however, a light treatment called phototherapy where skin is exposed to visible light, in particular, the intense blue light that is produced by dichroic bulbs, fluorescent lighting and LEDs. Regular treatments have been shown to reduce acne lesions by a significant amount.

Keep your face clean but do not overwash. Washing the skin with an unscented antiseptic soap will keep bacterial growth in check, but do not wash more than the number of times recommended. Twice a day is good enough. Overwashing will mean touching and rubbing your face more so it gets irritated.

If you find that certain cosmetics cause breakouts, then stop using them altogether. It would be best to use non-comedogenic makeup or hypoallergenic makeup that is designed for sensitive skin.

Keep your hands off your face. Its tempting to squeeze and pick those pimples, but doing so will introduce bacteria to the already open skin and worsen the inflammation. Once the skin erupts, scarring occurs.

Watch your diet. There is a popular belief that acne is caused by eating chocolates, french fries, spicy food, even peanuts. No study has ever really made a conclusive statement, but if you think some foods do trigger acne breakouts, then keep away from them.

Keep stress at bay. It is not clearly known, but stress triggers the appearance of acne. Notice how those red bumps have a way of showing up just before a big day or special occasion?

Handling the scars.

Acne treatments are by themselves, skin peelers in that they promote the shedding of dead skin so new skin can grow. This has the effect of flattening the uneven surface. But some acne conditions may have produced some deep scars and there are treatments like dermabrasion, chemical peels and laser surgery that a patient can turn to. These, however, have their own side effects.

There are many products out in the market that promise total cure. It is best to be realistic and understand that there is no overnight treatment, so beware of medications that promise miracles. Acne can be difficult to cure, but it is manageable. Some medication may show some results about three weeks from the beginning of the treatment, so do not be disappointed and stop the medications altogether. Acne can be treated and sensible hygiene with the help of medication may just do the trick.

Acne - What Is It?

by Michael Russell

Acne is spots or papules found on the face, neck, back, chest and shoulders. These spots may develop into pustules with a white or yellowy head that can sometimes be painful. The occurrence of whiteheads and blackheads is quite common.

In puberty the level of sex hormones in the body rises and causes the sebaceous glands in the skin to produce too much sebum (oil). Sebum is produced in the hair follicles. There occurs an overproduction of the top layer of skin and the pores leading to the sebaceous glands become blocked with plugs of keratin. This causes blackheads and allows the bacteria that love sebum to multiply. The surrounding skin becomes inflamed, while the blood vessels expand to allow more infection-fighting cells to the blocked pore. This is usually accompanied by the production of pus.

Vigorous washing and scrubbing are not recommended as this can actually stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum. Do not use alcohol based astringent cleaners, as it can dry out your skin. Do not touch or squeeze the pimples, as this spreads the infection even more.

Acne is an extremely common condition in adolescence and has affected most people, even mildly, at some stage in their lives. Adolescent boys and girls can suffer severe psychological effects from even mild cases of acne. Treatment today is successful in the most severe cases, but skin results are gradual and can take up to two months to show an improvement. Perseverance and patience with treatment will eventually produce positive results. Unfortunately, acne won't clear up on its own without some form of treatment. Treatment could possibly become ongoing, as new spots will continue to appear, leaving the teenager without a clear complexion. The initial step to follow is to try over-the-counter medications. These contain substances to dry the skin antibacterial properties to promote healing. If these do not produce results then take your teenager to the pharmacy and ask the pharmacist to suggest a range of creams, gels and lotions. It is important that all skin treatments are applied over the entire affected area and not just the spots.

If scars develop or the acne is on the back, then it is better to see your doctor who may prescribe antibiotics with benzoyl peroxide or and antibiotic cream. It is important to persist with the treatment given for at least two months. If there is no improvement discuss other options with your doctor. If the acne persists or causes great distress to the teenager, because of their appearance, then the doctor may refer you to a dermatologist.

Diet does not appear to be an important factor at this stage. It is worth noting that eating sweets and fatty foods depress the immune function, possibly making the condition worse. Nutritional deficiencies, particularly zinc and vitamin A should be eradicated, by eating foods rich in these minerals and vitamins. Monthly visits to a qualified beauty therapist will also prove effective, in long-term treatment of acne. Essential oils with antiseptic properties, such as Tea Tree oil, will reduce the build up of bacteria on the skin.

Acne Body Cure

Can Acne And Pimples Come From What You Don't Eat

by Wycliffe Williams

The struggle we have of trying to rid ourselves of pimples and acne can be a very frustrating struggle. Especially since they eventually turn into scars that generally become very unsightly over time. This tends to play havoc with our self-esteem.

In addition, our young people, and Im talking about our sons and daughters, face continual hardship when their acne is really bad.

Depending on how well a child has been nurtured and prepared by their parents, even a mild case of acne can bring a surprising reaction from the child.

Acne is the most diagnosed skin disorder in the United States. Let no one kid you, we are dealing with a monster here. It is a serious problem and we should treat it as such.

Our primary approach to curing ourselves of acne must come from the area of our diet. Did you know that prior to 1950, Canadian Eskimos, up to that point in their history, never had acne?

Is that startling? Well how about this? When so called modern food was introduced into their diet, along came acne. I didnt say that all efforts should be focused toward the diet. I said that our primary approach should come from the area of our diet.

Acne And Pimples

Blackheads, whiteheads, pustules, infected sacs and cysts. Weve been told countless times about the sebaceous or oil glands and how they get clogged. Then bacteria multiply, and along comes inflammation.

Did you know that some people, a very few though, have acne all their lives? How bad is that? In spite of all that, there is hope! Acne comes because of the things you do, and the things you dont do. Let me explain that.

When you eat too much meat, eggs, denatured flour, and white sugar, something inside of your body has to go awry.

On the other hand, when you do not eat the more wholesome foods like fresh vegetables, whole grains and fruits, the body doesnt get enough of the foods that it does need.

How often do you get a bath? So you take good care of your outer body. How often do you bathe your inner body? What am I talking about? No one can wash and bathe the inner body? I beg to differ.

When was the last time that you ate an apple? An apple washes and scrubs the inner body just like Mr. Clean does on the commercial. The old clich that an apple a day keeps the doctor away may be time-worn, but its true.

The action of an apple working on the inside of the body is truly amazing. Eat plenty of fruits. They wash, bathe and cleanse the inside of the body. The more natural the fruit is, the better it is for you.

Only eat store bought canned fruits when you absolutely cannot get fresh fruit. Always wash your fruit before eating, and soak dried fruit, prunes and apricots.

And lastly, always, but always have yourself a banana everyday. For the wonderful women who are expecting a baby, snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Has your child been bitten by a mosquito? Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Surprised? Here's a little more. Bananas contain potassium. It is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance.

And finally, according to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%! Do monkeys know something that we don't?

Acne and pimples have certainly taken their toll on Wycliffe Williams daughter and son. He has worked diligently to rid them of the acne scourge. The battle isnt over yet. As soon as they let their guard down, guess what happens? How about you? Still struggling with your acne and unsightly pimples? There is hope, I firmly believe this book will help. Why Drinking Enough Water Can Help Keep Acne Away

by Houa Yang

You probably dont know this yet but product wastes and toxic build up in your system is one of the main reasons why you have acne or why your skin breaks out.

You see, your body has 4 channels of elimination...your bowels, kidneys, lungs, and your skin. Your bowels and kidneys are the primary channels that your body expels product wastes and toxics through.

The only time that your body expels product wastes through your lungs and skin is when your bowels and kidneys are overloaded with product wastes and toxics.

This can happen when youre not drinking enough water.
You see, water is the main carrier of nutrients throughout your body and is quite possibly the single most important contributor to healing and preventing acne flare-ups.

Drinking enough water will dissolve waste products in your system so it can be easily remove and flush out. Without enough water, there wont be much to dissolve these product wastes and toxics...causing it to build up in your system and causing your body to expel these product wastes and toxics through your lungs and skin.

And this can and will result in acne breakout.

How much water should you be drinking each day to dissolve product waste and flush out toxins from your body?

Although some would say you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and some would say 3 liters a day or half of your bodyweight in ounces a day.

I say, you should drink only enough to see that your urine is mostly clear, which is probably much more than what youre drinking now.

But I wouldnt recommend you going overboard because drinking too much water will also flush out electrolyte minerals out of your system (which is not good).

So how do you know how much water you should be drinking each day?

Test!

Start by drinking 7 glasses of water a day for the next 2 to 3 days. If you see that your urine is clear then 7 glasses of water a day is what you should be drinking.

But remember, you dont want to go overboard so you may want to try drinking 6 glasses of water a day. If you see that your urine is kind of yellow drinking 6 glasses of water a day then you should stick to 7 glasses of water a day. If not then you should stick with 6 glasses of water a day.

But if you find that 7 glasses of water a day is not enough. Then you should try drinking more glasses of water a day and see the results.

What youre trying to do here is make sure youre drinking enough water each day. Not too much or too little.
Another important thing you should know...

You cant just drink any type of water. There are certain types of water thats full of toxins (such as tap water). The 2 types of water I recommend you drink is distilled water and purified water. Distilled water has no minerals, which means if you drink it, it will leach out any unwanted non-organic minerals from your system.

But since distilled water has no minerals (its just dead water), you will need to drink some purified water to oxygenate your system. However, you do need to drink them separately and drink it on an empty stomach for it to be effective.

While water alone will not eliminate your acne it will greatly assist your skin in remaining healthy and that will be one portion of the pie in fighting acne.

Cure For Acne

Top 5 Ways to Get Rid of Acne

by John Mancini

Acne is a problem that affects a large amount of people across the world. Contrary to popular misconceptions it does not discriminate completely against age or sex. It's true that it does seem to be closely associated with hormones and people who are suffering from high hormone levels and for this reason teens are more likely to develop acne than any other age group. However, over a quarter of adults will also develop acne at some point in their adult lives. Adult acne can cause depression and social anxiety so treating it can be vital to sufferers. There have been many different treatments for acne in the past but many have failed to regularly and consistently get rid of acne.

1- There are a number of cleansing lotions and moisturizers that can be bought over the counter in chemists or supermarkets. These have a varied degree of success and some will work better than others. Unfortunately they can be expensive, especially if you need to try several before you have any success.

2- Antibiotics can work well with some patients, but the body quickly builds up an immunity to most antibiotics rendering them useless. Also, while antibiotics might work to get rid of acne they can also produce undesirable side effects in users. You may become more light sensitive or suffer from dizziness or nausea.

3- Acne seems to be closely related to increased levels of hormones. For this reason many women suffer from acne at the same time each month during their menstrual cycle. A doctor may prescribe a birth control pill that balances hormone levels and therefore works effectively to get rid of acne.

4- Vitamin derivatives and nutritional supplements work very well to get rid of acne as long as you buy the right ones. Vitamins A, C and E as well as Iron work well in the fight against acne and are readily available from most grocery stores. Some of these supplements and derivatives can have some notable side effects. The gels and creams will make you more sensitive to light so you should always combine them with sun screen.

5- Short treatments of intense light have been proven to be very effective in helping your get rid of acne. usually conducted over a four week period many patients have shown excellent progress, especially when compared to medicines and other techniques.

John Mancini has been writing about acne online and offline for a long time. Visit http://bye-bye-pimples.com or http://acne-no-more.com to read more about matters like adult acne.

Acne and Makeup: A How-To Guide

by John Wellington

Righty...so your new acne medication promises fast results in 10 days, but you've got to face the world today. What can we do to tie over the proceeding period before the acne goes down?

Well all you need is to learn a few creative acne makeup concealing tips to help you look your very best at school, work or play.

But remember -- Makeup conceals acne, it doesn't cure it!

But you already knew that, right? Using makeup to conceal acne isn't difficult, but there are some basic rules that you should always follow.

Your basic acne makeup toolkit

Your three acne hiding weapons will be a concealer, a foundation and a finishing powder. Stay away from the dollar store and use only brand names that you can trust.

Choose only oil-free makeup products that match your skin tone. Oil-free is the key to success here so read the labels carefully. You don't want to aggravate your existing acne problem by layering a fresh coat of oil on skin that already has too much to begin with. Choose a hypoallergenic brand while you're at it.

If this is the first time that you are using a new brand, test the makeup applying small dabs to a spot under your jaw to see how your skin reacts. If you are going to have a problem you'll know within an hour or so after applying it. Nothing's worse than adding more blotches to an already colorful face.

Before you begin

Wash your face with your normal face cleansing product and pat dry. Apply your acne medication per the instructions and let it dry throughly.

Start with the concealer

Apply the concealer in a light dabbing motion directly to any dark blotches or red areas that the acne has produced on your skin. Blend the concealer in using a disposable facial sponge. Use the concealer sparingly. You can always apply more if you need it but you don't want to layer it on too thickly. It will look terrible when it dries.

Next, apply the foundation

Apply the foundation sparingly as well and use a light dabbing motion here too. Blend the foundation with your sponge and reapply to any areas that need it.

And now for the final touch

Apply a light layer of the oil-free powder using a large makeup brush. This will take care of any shine that the acne concealer and foundation left behind and it will give you an even and finished look.

Throw away the disposable sponges when you are through so you don't transfer yesterday's skin oil to tomorrow's clean face!

Before you go to bed

Wash your face throughly to remove all makeup before you go to bed, but preferably as soon as you can after you return home. You want your skin to breath and your acne to get as much fresh air as possible.

4 Easy Steps To Cover Your Pimples

by Rose Lindy

What do you do when your new acne medication has not kicked in an you need to look great TODAY? Do not panic. With the following easy tips you will look great so put away that ski mask and get to work on hiding that acne.

All you need to do is learn a few creative acne makeup concealing tips and you will look your very best at school, work or play.

There are some very easy ways to conceal acne with makeup. This does not cure it, but it will get you through the day with your head held high.

What your need for your acne makeup tool kit

You will only need three make-up weapons to hide your acne, concealer, a foundation and a finishing powder. Here is some advice, do not buy cheap make-up. You should only use make-up that has a good reputation that you trust. Some examples are Clinique and Lancome. Also be sure to buy a color that matches your skin tone well.

The key to success with this is to choose oil-free makeup. Read the labels to make sure it is oil-free. Most of your good, brand name products will be oil-free. Using oil-free makeup and cleansing products will ensure that you are not going to aggravate the acne. After all you are trying to cover it up, not get rid of it! Another good rule of thumb is to use hypoallergenic products so you do not break out from an allergy. Lancome is a good hypoallergenic brand.

It is always a good ideas to test any new brand of makeup that you are using. You want to test it to make sure you are not allergic to it. To test, apply small dabs to a small area under your jaw. If you skin is going to have an allergic reaction it will happen within an hour. This is really important because if you use something all over your face that you are going to be allergic to...well you can imagine how awful that will look.

Here are the four steps to hiding that acne

1. Wash your face with your normal face cleansing product and pat dry. Use your acne medication as directed and be sure to let it dry completely.

2. Start with the concealer. Apply the concealer right onto any blotches or red areas caused by the acne. Use a light dabbing motion. Use a disposable facial sponge to blend the concealer in. Use small amounts of concealer, remember you can apply more if you need it but you do not want to layer it on too thickly or it will look terrible when it dries.

3. Apply foundation using a light dabbing motion. Use the foundation sparingly an blend it in with your disposable makeup sponge. You can add foundation to any areas that need it.

4. Using a makeup brush put on a light layer of the oil-free powder. This gets rid of any shine left by the concealer or foundation. It also evens everything up and gives you a "finished" look.

That is it! It is so easy to do and you will look great. Be sure you throw away the sponges because your natural face oil will get on them and you do not want to reapply that oil to your face by using the sponge again. Before you go to bed be sure and wash your face thoroughly to get all the makeup off. This will help control the acne you have and prevent new acne from showing up.

Choosing the Proper Acne Alternative Treatments

by Dean Iggo

Choosing the right regimen of acne alternative treatments can mean a lifetime of clear skin without the difficulty of obtaining yet another medicine from your doctor that either won't work or will cause such severe side effects that you will believe the acne is better than the treatment. Millions of people suffer from acne on a worldwide basis. There are a number of homemade and herbal remedies that we in the western world don't even consider because they are not a prescription medication. However, acne alternative treatments are the only thing that will cure your acne problems without side effects.

Acne Alternative Treatment 1

Choosing a diet that is reliant upon unprocessed fruits and vegetables can help to cure your acne. You will need no less than five servings of some type of vegetable and one serving of some variety of fruit every day for the diet treatment to work. If you eat a lot of trans fats, you will have to cut them out of your diet. Increase your intake of foods that contain omega-3 oils. Be sure to take in at least eight glasses of water each day with your new diet.

Acne Alternative Treatment 2

Increase your intake of vitamin and nutritional supplements. Taking five thousand international units per day of Vitamin A has been shown in a variety of studies to decrease acne in many people. Zinc can help prevent acne before it starts if taken in mild doses. Vitamin B6 can reduce skin sensitivity and help stop acne breakouts as well.

Acne Alternative Treatment 3

Using herbs like sarsaparilla, yellow dock, burdock, and cleavers has been shown to dramatically reduce acne outbreaks. If a blemish erupts while using these herbs, dab it with tea tree oil for overnight results. These are best taken in their natural form for full effectiveness. The best way to do this is through tea.

Acne Causes

Adult Acne: Can It Still be Cured?

by Charlene Nuble

The tales of adult acne has ever been a silent one, only told as whispers and an unfortunate few suffered from it, some may even refuse to show themselves to the world. The manifestation of adult acne has been recognized during the Eighties, when the yuppie generation has standardized of what is to become the hip urban lifestyle free of adult acne and any other lesions.

Though adult acne is one aesthetic issue that is quite prevalent in the real world, nearly 25 percent of men, and about 50 percent of women from their twenties and even in their fifties may still experience having adult acne. The face is usually the first place for adult acne to appear, and may also form in parts of the body only their significant other knows where.

So much like the majority of teenagers with their growing pains, what sort of twisted fate that could make adults tremble with fear due to adult acne? Have they suffered enough when they were younger and forced to douse themselves with every medicated formula there is to cure adult acne?

As much as today's medical breakthroughs can offer in the 21st century, adult acne, so much like teenage acne, still has no cure though doctors and dermatologists believe its roots may be traced to hormonal imbalance. Another addition to the cause of adult acne can be found on how we actually live, mostly on diet, stress, vitamin deficiency, and evolutionary biology. No, we are not turning into monsters. All they can prescribe is that products on acne marketed for teens may also be used by adults.

Social issues fall victim to adult acne, causing anxiety and depression among friends and family alike. Who could just walk into an after-hours club when his or her face is covered in adult acne? It may be a vanity thing for those who would want to stand out to be noticed, but adult acne is one type of concern that will definitely make you stand out like a weed. Skin clinics rejoice that they make thousands of (pesos) from people to help them get rid of their adult acne. Cosmetic products like foundations, blushes and such kept flying off the shelves as women find ways to hide the scars caused by adult acne. They would say that 'judge not a book by its cover', but it would only mean that only the fortunate ones have not suffered adult acne. As we live in a generation where superficiality can be just about anything, adult acne has become a hindrance of a majority of adults who wish to look presentable.

We have yet to find the ultimate cure for adult acne, and while the answer is yet to be found, only prevention is the best cure for adult acne.

Acne Birth Control

Looking into Chemical Peels for Treating your Acne?

by C. L. Jackson

I've never been big on the thought of applying chemicals to any part of my body, and the idea of using them on my face to heal acne sounded counter-productive - not to mention more than a little painful! Chemical peels, however, have been a popular acne treatment for many, many years. Often more effective than simple topical treatments, but arguably less intense than laser skin resurfacing or microdermabrasion, chemical peels can be used to treat both acne blemishes as well as acne scars. There are a few different types of peels, differentiated by the depth of penetration and the chemical ingredients.

Chemical peels use a variety of chemicals to remove the upper layer of damaged, scarred, or lined skin. The idea is that, with the removal of damaged skin, new and healthy skin will grow in its place. Furthermore, removing the top part of the skin can take away any dead skin cells blocking the pores, allowing comedones to start healing and preventing new formations.

There are several different types of chemical peels, and AHA (alphahydroxy acid) peels are the mildest form of chemical peel, with the least recovery time involved. Sometimes doctors even recommend a face wash or cream containing AHA for a similar effect. AHA peels can be composed of glycolic, lactic, or fruit-based acids, and application generally lasts only 10 minutes at a time. Since the process is so gentle, repeat applications may be necessary with intervals of a week or more in between. Following the treatment, the skin generally responds with temporary flaking or sloughing of dead cells and may feel very dry and red, somewhat similar to a sunburn. This generally disappears quite quickly, and bandages aren't usually necessary.

Chemical peels done using TCA (trichloracetic acid) are a moderate form of chemical peel that affects a greater depth of the skin. This peel can take longer to apply, and results in a more intense burning of the skin. Although the procedure can be done relatively quickly during a visit to the dermatologist, sedation is sometimes used during the treatment in order to help the patient relax. Also, since the TCA peel is more intense than the AHA peel, it is recommended that sun exposure be limited, and the skin properly protected. Some crusting may occur with this treatment, but it is purely superficial, and should disappear within a few days.

The strongest type of chemical peel uses phenol, generally in combination with croton oil. This treatment is used to remove deep wrinkles, serious sun-damage, and sometimes even pre-cancerous growths. The phenol peel is the deepest one available, which is both beneficial and detrimental. The chief positive aspect of a phenol peel is that skin improvements are so obvious; smooth, even-toned, and more blemish-free skin can often be noticed within 7-10 days, lasting sometimes up to 20 years. The cost for such dramatic improvements, however, is not small. The procedure itself can be up to 2 hours in length. Also, the recovery time for a phenol peel can take over a month, and side-effects are reported to be much more common for this peel than for the AHA or TCA peels. These side-effects include swelling and crusting, but one of the most serious is a permanent skin pallor. Phenol peels essentially bleach the skin and render it unable to tan. This means that the effects of this peel will look natural only for those with pale skin who don't tan easily.

It is clear that chemical peels, as with any acne medication, are not a procedure to embark upon without a consultation from a professional. Since peels vary in penetrating depth, certain chemical peels are tailored towards certain types of acne. Also, while self-treatment kits can be purchased, it is highly recommended that patients go to a professional. Only professionals can ensure proper chemical control and minimize the chance of mistakes and irreversible side-effects such as scarring or adverse pigmentation. From most reports, chemical peels sound like they can be a very useful tool for acne treatment, often with fantastic results. That said, I don't think I'll be doing it myself any time soon!
